handling anodized surfaces
DEFINITION
LIMIT SAMPLES
For limit samples, the upper and lower characteristic value of a certain quality is defined as a target.
The limit values for the color spectrum (light / dark) apply to the anodizing process described here.

EXAMPLE
Limit Sample E6 | G212
For technical printing reasons,
the colors shown here are not binding.
All profiles that fall within the color spectrum shown meet the requirements and do not constitute a reason for complain. The assessment of the flawlessness of the visible surface is carried out after anodizing on the basis of DIN 17611:2022-08 or the VFF Merbklatt AL.03:2016-08 visual assessment of anodically oxidized (anodized) surfaces on aluminium.
COLOR SAMPLE = GUIDE SAMPLE
With color or guide samples, there are no limits for an upper or lower characteristic value in the color spectrum. For this reason, there is only 1 color sample that serves as a guide to the color tone. Deviating color shades of the delive- red material compared to a received color or reference sample do not constitute grounds for complaint.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE SURFACE FINISH
| according to DIN 17611 | Description | Surface appearance |
| E0 | Degreasing and deoxidizing | Drawing marks, scratches, grinding marks or other surface defects remain visible |
| E1 | Grinded | Uniform, matt-looking surface, small drawing marks or scratches are removed |
| E2 | Brushed | Homogeneous bright surface, drawing marks, scratches, file marks only partially removed |
| E3 | Polished | Shiny surface, drawing marks, scratches, file marks are only partially removed |
| E4 | Grinded and brusched | Homogeneous glossy surface, mechanical surface defects are removed |
| E5 | Grinded and polished | Smooth, shiny appearance, mechanical surface defects are removed |
| E6 | Chemically pre-treated, pickling | Matt, rough surface. Drawing marks, scratches, file marks are partially evened out. Material-related changes in surface appearance cannot always be avoided. |
| E7 | Chemically / electrochemically polished | High-gloss surface, surface defects are only partially eliminated |
| E8 | Polished and chemically/electrochemically polished | High-gloss surface, mechanical surface defects are generally eliminated |

REMARKS ON THE POSSIBLE COMBINATIONS OF SURFACES AND COLORS
- Other colors such as Sandalor, Colinal, Granodal, etc. on request.
- Guide samples are always produced as sheet metal, even if the subsequent application is a profile. Exception: limit samples E6 / EV2, E6 / EV3 and E6 / C31 are available on profiles.
- Please note the delivery times of approx. 10 working days plus tour for limit samples not kept in stock.
- Limit samples are availabe at a price. Prices for non-stocked limit samples on request.
- The standard value for the thickness of the oxide layer for color samples and limit samples is normally class 20 according to DIN 17611, table 2. Any deviating layer thicknesses must be requested separately.
GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE MANUFACTURER
Before ordering anodized surfaces, the following instructions must be considered by the manufacturer:
- Color samples are to be used as a reference value. In addition to the anodizing treatment, the surface condition and the properties of the semi-finished product used, such as the alloy, the tempering condition and the material thickness, also play a role in determining the colour. Color deviations are therefore also batch-related and depen- dent on the primary material.
- It is recommended, in case of a specific order beyond the reference samples, to order limit samples in decorative anodizing quality „EQ“ separately for rolled and extruded products and to refer the material order for the project to these. Please note the delivery times and that these limit samples are subject to a charge.
- Orders for limit samples should always include the following information specified by the manufacturer:
- Name of the construction project
- Definition of the articles
- Total quantity in m2
- Total period of the construction project
EXAMPLE:
Profile Item no: ______ DIN EN 12020-1 EN AW-6060 T66-EQ-E6/C33 according to limit sample from xx.xx.xxxx
Sheet ______________ DIN EN 485-2 EN AW-5005-H14-EQ-E6/C33 according to limit sample from xx.xx.xxxx
- Anodized surfaces are cleaned with warm water to which a chlorine-free cleaning agent (e.g. washing-up liquid) has been added. Only a cloth or sponge and water should be used. For heavily dirty surfaces, the use of special anodizing cleaners is recommended, the cleaning effect of which is achieved by abrasive substances.
In this case, the anodizing cleaner Alu Polish can be used (Article number: 122040011).
